Production of Polyhydroxyalkanoates Using Waste Activated Sludge as Biocatalyst:

چکیده

サステイナブルな下水処理系の構築に向けて、産業排水等に含まれる有機成分を基質とし、余剰汚泥をバイオ触媒として用いて、化成品等の有価物を生産する戦略が提案できる。すなわち、下水処理場をバイオリファイナリーに進化させる構想である。この構想を実現するうえで核となる技術として、余剰汚泥によるバイオプラスチックPHA(ポリヒドロキシアルカン酸)の生産に関しての技術開発を進めている。下水処理場由来の余剰汚泥は特に馴致せずとも、産業排水等に含まれる揮発性脂肪酸や糖類などの比較的広範な基質からPHAをある程度生産する能力を有していることが示されている。また、ADD法(aerobic dynamic discharge process)により、余剰汚泥中のPHA蓄積微生物を集積することで、2日間程度の極めて短期間にPHA生産効率を飛躍的に向上し得ることできる。これらの研究開発の成果を活用することで、下水処理場におけるPHAの生産を実現する可能性が高まってきているといえる。
